Recreation Class

Tuesday – 4.45pm to 5.45pm (Farmcove Location)
Thursday - 5.00pm to 6.00pm (Somerville Location)

In our recreation class your child will learn some of the basic skills of Rhythmic Gymnastics. Incorporated into our classes we use both dance and apparatus handling with gymnasts engaging with many types of equipment learnt in the sport. They will develop confidence, manipulation skills and rhythm by learning basic routines taught throughout the year in the Incentive Programme. This class is for beginner and intermediate gymnasts between the ages of 5 – 9 years old. It is recommended that all gymnasts start in the recreation class before moving into competition classes unless the head coach advises otherwise.

Pre-competition Class

Tuesday - 4.45pm to 6.00pm (Farmcove Location)
Thursday - 5.00pm to 6.15pm
(Somerville Location)

In our pre-comp class, gymnasts continue to develop their basic skills towards a competition level, improving their body technique and apparatus manipulation. They will learn one competition routine through the year and are required to attend a competition (to see how it works) and to compete their learnt routine during the year. This class allows your child to get a feel for competitions to see if they would like to pursue them in the future while still being a fun after school activity. We suggest that children over the age of 9 are immediately placed into this class and the child's coach will decide whether younger gymnasts have the ability to join this class during the year.

Competition Level 1-2

Tuesday - 5.00pm to 6.30pm (Farmcove Location)
Saturday - 8.00am to 10.00am (Farmcove Location)

Our Level 1-2 class is the continuation on from pre-comp with added difficulty and extra stretching/conditioning. This has less focus on being recreational and more of a focus on being competitive with the majority of time spent practicing their two competition routines. These are then competed in a range of Auckland competitions, in the hopes that they will improve their apparatus handling and difficulties as the year progresses. The head coach will decide whether a gymnast is eligible to begin competitive rhythmic gymnastics when they have met the required skill level.

Competition Level 3 - 4

Tuesday 5.30pm to 7.30pm  (Farmcove Location)
Saturday - 8.30am to 11.00am (Farmcove Location)

The gymnasts in these levels practice at a higher level with stretching, conditioning and ballet all included within their training schedule. They are required to learn three routines to a high standard (consisting of a freehand and two apparatus routines) and must improve their body technique and apparatus manipulation skills in order to get the difficulties required for competition level routines.

Group Class

Thursday - 5.00pm to 7.00pm  (Somerville Location)

In rhythmic gymnastics, a group routine is one that consists of 4 or 5 gymnasts simultaneously competing the same routine with exchanges of apparatus between one another. This section of rhythmic gymnastics is one that is enjoyed by most gymnasts, as rhythmic gymnastics is typically an individual sport but this allows gymnasts to compete together and make stronger bonds. It teaches patience, co-ordination and co-operation and is a highlight of competitions for many. This class is only offered to gymnasts in level two or above due to the difficulty involved.
